Spacia FAQs
Spacia Installation
- Can Spacia flooring be installed on radiant (under floor heating) floors? Yes, providing the temperature at the glue line does not exceed 27°C (81°F). The heating must be switched off 48 hours before installation, during installation and for 48 hours after the installation has been completed. Amtico International HT adhesive is recommended. After the 48 hours has elapsed the heating system should incrementally increased.
- Can Spacia be laid in open or unheated areas? No, Spacia should not be installed in open or unheated areas.
- What are the correct room conditions for installation? Always refer to the detailed instructions but as a guide: the room temperature must be as close as practicable to a constant temperature of between 18°C (64°F) and 27°C (81°F) for a period of 24 hours before, during and for 24 hours after installation
Spacia Maintenance
- Is it necessary to apply Floor Dressing to a commercial installation? Urethane coating is applied to most Amtico products, which means that the floor does not need additional protection by using floor dressing. Amtico floors that are not urethane coated may benefit from the protection of dressing.
- What maintenance is recommended for commercial installations? Please contact us to discuss your specific commercial installations for full advice.
- Should an Amtico floor be cleaned after installation? Yes, this is very important, particularly if other building work has been carried out in the vicinity. However, it is recommended that cleaning is not carried out until 48 hours after the installation has been completed. A “deep clean” using an appropriate floor stripper may be necessary to remove engrained dirt or other residues.
Spacia Preparation
- Can Spacia be laid directly to a chipboard suspended floor? No, all chipboard suspended floors should be covered with 6mm exterior grade or APA plywood ensuring the joints between sheets do not correspond with those of the chipboard. Chipboard has a tendency to move with climatic changes, and unless over laid it is possible the joints in the chipboard will show through.
- Can I install Spacia over an existing vinyl or other resilient floor? All existing floor coverings of this type MUST BE REMOVED.
- Can Spacia floor coverings be laid over anhydrite screeds? Yes, but it is essential that flooring contractors are aware they are dealing with anhydrite, as it needs to be handled differently to a cement-based screed.
Spacia Specifications
- Do Spacia products meet the R9 standard introduced in 2005? Yes. Amtico International has invested significantly in developing their products to attain the new standard of slip resistance without compromising the ease of cleaning. Although Spacia products are R9 rated (provided of course that they are being correctly maintained) we do not claim them to be "non-slip.
- Does Amtico International have a "green" policy? Yes, Amtico International works to ISO 14001 (an environmental management system) and recycles most of its manufacturing waste internally.
- Is Spacia cigarette burn resistant? All resilient coverings will burn and char when cigarettes or cigars are extinguished on the floor surface. Spacia products should really only be used where this abuse is unlikely. The black crust can be removed using a nylon scouring pad moistened with water.
- How are Spacia products constructed? Spacia floor tiles are made from PVC resin compounded with high quality plasticizers and stabilizers, all compressed under pressure and temperature.
- Are Amtico International ISO 14001 ISO 9001 classified? ISO 14001 is the standard for internationally accepted guidelines for a comprehensive environmental management system. ISO 9001 is the internationally recognised standard for an organisation’s internal quality management. Amtico International has both certifications.
- What are the benefits of urethane coating? Urethane coating helps to reduce scuffing and makes the product easier to clean. Floor Dressing is not necessary with urethane-coated tiles unless a higher gloss is preferred.
- What is the static performance of Spacia? Spacia is classed as astatic. A specially formulated anti-static additive is incorporated into the formulation. This will reduce the likelihood of the wear layer attracting dirt or fibres and minimise the possibility of a build-up of static charge. The make up of Spacia is such that it generates < 2.0 KV of electricity (= astatic) in the recognized ISO walking test. Environmental conditions can have a dramatic effect on the generation of static, especially dry atmospheres, so that in a lot of cases static problems can be overcome by controlling the internal humidity. Other ways of reducing static are to use an antistatic cleaner and / or dressing.
Spacia Warranty
- Who warrants the installation of the floor? The Amtico International Commercial Warranty is restricted to the wear-out of the product. You are advised to seek a written guarantee from the contractor that his work will be free from defects in materials and workmanship. See Spacia Warranty
